Elevate with Luke Rowson
At Elevate, we believe in building relationships and understanding the people you would like to do business with. Every Friday we usually hear from our members answering our quick-fire questions. This week we hear from Luke Rowson from Perfect Sense Energy.
• Favourite place for a meeting- Ducie Street – it’s handy, they have booths and I’m a sucker for industrial chic
• Best place for a business lunch -Climat- Rooftop food, it was a one-off lunch and one I’d love to repeat again but not sure I’m allowed! Failing that level of excess House of Fu has quickly become a staunch favourite!
• Best advice you have been given- Aspire to be the most knowledgeable in the room. It was advice given to me right at the start of my career as an energy broker by my predecessor. I think it’s probably contributed to my crippling self doubt and imposter syndrome! But has encouraged me to be information and understanding driven, which I think is no bad thing!
• Who should we know from your network? Joss Bennet and Mark Hammond of Net Zero Group are phenomenal people and really driving exciting reporting and behaviour changes in sustainability in Sport and Automotive. I have to also give a props to Graeme Heyes of MMU, who was the vehicle for me to meet NZG at the great ECO-I-NW innovation programme, he is a powerhouse of knowledge having recently had the sustainability apprenticeship was involved in shaping go live
• Best way to contact you? Email, or text although you may get emails back at strange times
• Favourite type of events? Work Wise, it has to be the more casual, informal, getting to know each other in a nice space …. I wonder who I know who does that really well?
• Where will we find you outside of work? I wish I could say the gym but generally in the kitchen or in a bar/restaurant, Manchester hospitality scene is phenomenal and constantly changing I’d bloody hate to miss something!
• Favourite book- business or personal ? In an abstract kind of answer, cookbooks, but not recipe books are my favourite thing, one written well such as Veneto by Valeria Necchio or My Korea by Hooni Kim weave nostalgia and emotion into the recipes that I find very slow and joyous.
• Favourite Podcast- business or personal Grace Dent – Comfort Eating -I have never been more perturbed and intrigued by Jo Brands fried bread sandwich!
• Places outside of GM to visit? My partner is Irish from near Derry so often over there but I really enjoy Bristol and the Lakes
• Shout out to a mentor or someone who inspires you.- This is a really tricky thing to answer in our space because there are so many incredible people and sources of inspiration, I have only had a brief conversation with her but Corin Bell of Open Kitchen at People Planet Pastry and she was just brilliant to be around. There is a food theme in my answers, so it was really exciting to start to see a glimpse of what she is doing and working on and more so really focus on a space that Perfect sense is moving to contribute more towards.
• Why did you want to get involved with Elevate I was actually delivered Carbon Literacy training through growth hub by Ilona, not knowing who any one was, naturally (as I’m sure we all are) impressed with Ilona and did some digging and came across the first ever Northern Sustainability Summit and though we HAVE to be part of that going forwards and lo and behold we are. Really though it’s been the growing engagement and fun that we get with Elevate that’s made it a no brainer.
